Completely Mortified…

A friend forwarded me a text-message earlier this week; it was a cartoon of an elf.  Well, really it was a cartoon of the fully exposed rear end of an elf, and a caption announcing that the ‘Holiday Mooning War’ had officially begun.  I was encouraged to moon as many of my friends as I could, by forwarding the message on to their cell phones.  So of course I did.  Why not?  The message was mildly amusing and I was in a silly mood at the time.

One of the freinds to whom I forwarded the message to was my friend Jennifer.  She moved across the state last winter, and we do a lot of conversing via emails, but not so much over the telephone any longer.  Even so,  I was really surprised when I receieved a text message back from her, asking who I was and how I’d gotten her cell phone number.  “It’s Melissa,” I replied, and then, “I’m sorry; I meant to make you laugh, not freak you out.”  And then I realized something… Jennifer had gotten a new cell phone number a few months ago, and I’d never bothered to update her contact information in my cell phone.  I elf-mooned a total stranger, thinking they were my friend.  Oops.

The recipient of my text actually found the whole situation pretty funny, once I’d explained to them the mistake I’d made.  I laughed about it too, once I’d finished being completely mortified.

It is good to laugh at yourself once in a while.

You didn’t mention that when you “click” the little elf on your post he “wiggles”! :-)
