46 Minutes and 22 Seconds

5 11 2007

The neatest, most amazing thing happened tonight; I talked to my sister on the telephone for 46 minutes and 22 seconds!  Sarah hardly ever talks… I honestly think that the last genuine conversation I had with her took place in June, when I kidnapped her for 6 hours and took her flying for her 18th birthday… and so for Sarah to spend over 45 minutes on the telephone with me is such a huge blessing.

Oh my goodness, it was so wonderful to hear her talk and to laugh.  She told me all about this Outdoors Club that she joined at her college; she’s already spent two weekends this semester camping in the Adorondaks and climbing mountains.  Sarah was so excited about it, and was talking a mile a minute, telling me all about how she had to pee in the woods, hide her food from bears and spend two nights with four people crammed into a tent built to hold just two.  I love that my sister has found something she’s enjoys so much.

Neither Sarah nor I want to go back to our mother’s house for holidays.  For Thanksgiving, I’m going to stay with a friend in Ohio, and Sarah wants to go to see someone in Arizona.  We’re both trying to figure out ways to stay away over the winter and summer holidays as well.  It sort of makes me a little sad that Sarah doesn’t want to come home, but, at the same time, it also makes me feel good to know that I’m not the only one feeling that our house is not the most welcoming, relaxing place to be…   Anyway, she and I are going to keep calling one another, we’ve promised, at least once a week.  We want to keep in touch.

I am so excited that I got to talk to my sister!!!
